Keezhadi Excavation

Introduction In Tamil Nadu there are only two major archaeological sites. One of it is the village of Kodumanal in Erode district. The other one is the village of keezhadi in Sivaganga district. Keezhadi has been specified in many of the sangam texts of Tamil. This village of keezhadi is on the banks of river vaigai. In keezhadi the excavation was done on the elevated land of Pallisandhai Thidal. The findings here shows the ancient and the sangam lifestyle of tamizhans. Till now two phases of excavation have been completed.The archaeological team was divided into 3 teams and 43 pits were dug. There they found  the damaged walls, basement of the houses, wells, broken pots, women ornaments etc. All there dates back to sangam era. This place is predicted to be as perumanallur which is the old Madurai and capital of Pandya's before moving to present day Madurai. Jallikattu - Not just a sport but a science.

Introduction We already know that whatever practises that we tamizhans do have a scientific reason behind it. It is similar for our age long ancient sport Jallikattu. Jallikattu is not only a sport but a science. Many people wrongly match it with the bullfighting of Spain and Argentina where the bull is killed. But that is not the case in Jallikattu. Raja Raja Chola- The best of Cholas

Introduction We have many dravidian kings who are famous for their bravery and administration skills. One of such king is the world famous Raja Raja Chola. Raja Raja Chola who ruled over the whole of south India is considered to be one of the greatest ruler of the world. He was born as Arulmozhi Varman and he proclaimed the title Raja Raja(king of kings). He was crowned as the king of Chola Empire in 985 AD and ruled until his death in 1014 AD. He launched several naval campaigns which resulted in the capture of Maldives and Sri Lanka. He built the world famous Brihadeeswrar temple in Thanjavur. It was during his reign where the texts of tamil poets Appar, Sambandar and Sundarar were collected, edited and compiled into one called the Thirumurai. He initiated a massive project on survey and assessment of land in 1000 which led to the reorganisation of his empire into Valanadus. In this blog let us see the truth behind the seven pagodas of the south. Seven pagodas is the nickname to the coastal south Indian city of Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram. The fact is that there were six other temples along with shore temple in Mahabalipuran built by the pallava king Narasimhavarman II which stands at the shore of bay of bengal.The Italian merchant Gasparo Balbi was the first to refer the term 'Seven Pagodas'. The other references were from Alexander Hamilton in 1744, Pierre Sonnerat. Pierre Sonnerat states that it would be the oldest temple on the coromandel coast. However there are no enough evidences to prove it.
